SCIENTIFIC POSTER: Expanding Human Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs) to Therapeutic Doses
Using Human Platelet Lysate (hPL) in the Quantum® Cell Expansion System
As human cellular therapies move closer to wider release in consumer markets, our industry must
address concerns regarding potential contamination with zoonotic pathogens or altered cellular
function due to infiltration of non-human elements into expanded cellular products. This poster details findings based on a recent study conducted by our Innovation and Development (I&D) team. The poster describes the ability of the Quantum system to expand human MSCs using hPL as a cell culture medium.
- MSCs can be expanded to therapeutic doses in the Quantum system using hPL or fetal bovine serum (FBS) as a media supplement.
- Human cryoprecipitate (CPPT) can be used as an adherence promoter for MSCs cultured using either FBS or hPL as a media supplement.
- There were no notable differences in cell product cultured in either hPL or FBS when assayed for morphology, cell phenotype and potential for tri-lineage differentiation.
- All harvested products meet minimal criteria set by the International Society for Cellular Therapy for the standard definition of MSCs.
